Run CMD Elevated Mode – Right Click Crashes Windows Explorer

Can’t Run CMD Elevated Mode, Windows Explorer Crashes

I had this stupid problem with my new computer where Windows Explorer crashes with right-clicking. I did some Googling (probably what you’re doing right now) and found a solution for fixing the registry using the command sfc /scannow in command prompt. The only problem? Right click wasn’t working. I found out that I could actually right click in Windows Search, but running CMD as administrator crashed Windows Explorer as well!

Run CMD As Admin Through Task Manager

The solution was actually insanely simple. You need to open up the task manager (ctrl+alt+del) and hold ctrl while clicking on run new task. Please note: you must hold down ctrl while clicking. That’s actually the big huge secret thing. That ctrl part. Told you, easy.

Run CMD As Administrator - Windows Explorer Crashes

Now sfc /scannow Works!

Now you’ll be running command prompt as an administrator and sfc /scannow will work. If it doesn’t work, you probably didn’t hold ctrl while launching command prompt.

Hope this helps.
